As someone else mentioned, area around the central station is grim, especially the side streets, but is where all the trendy bars are now starting to appear.
Sachsenhausen on south of river good for traditional cider pubs, restaurants etc. The "Alt" part of Sachsenhausen full of pubs and bars; take your pick.
Bornheim in east of city also full of bars and restaurants, mainly situated on a long stretch called Bergerstrasse and especially toward the top end near Bornheim Mitte tube station, where you'll also find a good Irish boozer for the football etc.
Lots of clubs, too many to mention. Check out Prinz, as suggested below.

There is an Irish Pub pretty much opposite the main Station, and not much else in the vicinity. If it's a European night it is a very good place to spend the evening (decent beer and decent pub food) as there are several screens in different areas (big place) and various enclaves of different nationalities cheering on different teams. Makes for quite a good atmosphere.

Swiss, click on the above link. It is an online listings magazine, just like Time Out. You can translate the pages or an entry. It's pretty easy to workout what is what. Klub - Club, Cafe - Bar, Kneipe is a Pub, Nachtleben - Night life, Diskotek - Discotheque, Tanzen - Dancing, Essen - Food, Bier - Beer and so on. Have fun. Avoid that local cider stuff in the Alt Stadt. It'll go right through you.

Working out there off and on over November. Been a few years since I last went - used to stay near the main station which was red light and a seedy smackhead zone. Been told that the station area has been cleaned up a bit, south of the river (Sachsenhausen) good for tourist cider bar crawls, and Nordend is decent for bars etc.

a week. Usually stay over tues nights. Can anyone recommend a goodplace to go, bar, club and no im not interested in trhye red light stuff?
